Planning a perfect day at Disneyland can feel overwhelming, whether you are a seasoned fan or a first-time visitor. This guide gives you a simple order to follow — tickets and reservations, arrive early, classic rides, shows, food, and souvenirs — so you can enjoy the day instead of spending it deciding what to do next.

Getting started: tickets, reservations, and arriving early

Before you step inside the park, secure your tickets and make any required reservations in advance, and keep them ready on your phone. Arriving before the park opens gives you a head start on crowds and a better chance at popular rides with shorter wait times. The early bird gets the Mickey-shaped waffle — and, more importantly, the shorter line.

Must-visit rides

Start with the classics. Space Mountain is a high-speed indoor roller coaster through the cosmos. Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic indoor boat ride with Captain Jack Sparrow and animatronics that still impress. Haunted Mansion is a spooky but family-friendly ride through a haunted estate. It's a Small World is a charming boat ride celebrating unity and diversity around the globe. These four are a solid core for a first day — add more rides from the app as time and wait times allow, rather than trying to ride everything. Note: It's a Small World closes October 30, 2026, for its holiday overlay and reopens November 13, 2026, so check the app on your date.

Shows and parades: check the app, not an old post

Disneyland's shows and parades change, and an old post is the worst place to learn what is on today. Fantasmic! is a nighttime spectacular combining fireworks, water projections, and live performances — check whether it is running on your date. For stage shows and parades, check the Disneyland app on the day for what is actually scheduled, rather than assuming a show from an old guide is still running. A show that was current in 2024 may not be current now, and planning around a discontinued show is a wasted evening.

Where to eat

All that fun works up an appetite, and Disneyland has dining options for every pace. Blue Bayou Restaurant, inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, offers Cajun and Creole cuisine in a New Orleans setting — book ahead if you can. Plaza Inn is known for hearty fried chicken meals that keep you fuelled. Bengal Barbecue offers skewers, meat and veggie, for a lighter, quicker bite. Pick one sit-down meal and one or two quick bites, rather than trying to eat at every famous restaurant in one day.

Souvenirs, and the end of the day

Before you leave, grab a souvenir that actually means something to you — a plush Mickey, Minnie ears, or a personalised ornament — rather than the first thing you see. Then take stock: planning a day at Disneyland is about creating memories, taking photos, and savouring the experience, not about ticking every ride off a list. With this order in hand, you are well on your way to an enchanting day.
