Orange County's dining scene is wide enough that a single "best restaurants" list is misleading — the best restaurant for a special occasion is not the best restaurant for tacos, and the best sushi room is not the best steakhouse. This guide therefore presents eight places to try, grouped by what they are good at, from the original post, without ranking them. Two places from the original post are not included here: Taco María in Costa Mesa closed its original location in July 2023, and Provenance in Newport Beach has closed. Check each one below is still open, and book ahead where needed, before you go.

Fine dining and special occasions
